We are committed to our Health, Safety and Environment Policy and employ staff specifically responsible for our continual improvement in these areas.

As a company we ensure that we provide a safe environment to work in and make sure all our employees are suitably trained. The provision of information and openness is key to ensure that our organisation, customers and the environment are protected from harm.

S. Black Ltd Policy

It is the policy of both management and employees of S. Black Ltd. to ensure we regularly assess and continually improve our operating systems, distribution network and understanding of our products, with respect to:

  • their impact on the health and safety of our employees, customers and the general public
  • their impact on the environment

We not only aim to surpass the minimum legislative requirements, but are also responsive to the concerns of our employees and the public. We assist our customers in the safe and environmentally sound use of our products, and encourage our suppliers to adopt similar policies.

Health and Safety Objectives

  • Establish and encourage a healthy and safe workplace for all employees and maintain all related facilities, equipment and systems.
  • Provide all employees with appropriate information, instruction and training with regards to individual health and safety but also highlight their responsibilities to the welfare and supervision of others.
  • Prevent personal injury or damage to the health of all employees and others on company premises or whilst employees are on company business.
  • Ensure all chemicals are used, packaged, labeled, dispatched and disposed of in accordance with local and governmental legislation.
  • Ensure that hazardous materials are stored in a segregated, controlled environment and are handled to minimize exposure.
  • Establish and maintain trained First Aiders and Fire Marshals.
    Ensure that all areas used for the storage of products are kept clean, dry and free from infestation.
  • Regularly inspect the building and grounds and report and promptly rectify any findings that could pose an unacceptable risk to health and safety or compromise fire safety precautions.
  • Monitor and report on accidents and incidents regarding Health and Safety and hold regular meetings with the Health and Safety committee to discuss the above and any other pertinent issues.

Environmental Objectives

  • To ensure regulatory compliance and conduct our activities in accordance with sound environmental practices.
  • Maintain and adhere to effective procedures for the handling, use and storage of materials to prevent environmental incidents.
  • To minimise the consumption of natural resources and energy and reduce the creation of waste by improving operating practices and the re-cycling of materials.
  • To dispose of all waste material and chemicals using only approved contractors experienced in the environmentally safe disposal of waste.
  • To co-operate and maintain good relations with national and local authorities concerned with protection of the environment.
  • Seek to be a good neighbour and improve the aesthetic appearance of the company site.
  • To maintain and adhere to procedures to enable a quick response to and safe control and clean up of any spillage incident that may occur.
  • To investigate and report on all environmental incidents or complaints and to take such action as is reasonably practicable to prevent recurrence.
  • To provide as much information as possible on environmental matters regarding our products and activities.
  • To review health, safety and environmental issues during regular management meetings.
